How to open NPS Account Online through eNPS | Step-by-Step Procedure | National Pension Scheme




National Pension System (NPS) is a pension cum investment scheme launched by the Government of India to provide old age security to Citizens of India. It brings an attractive long term saving avenue to effectively plan your retirement through the safe and regulated market-based return. The Scheme is regulated by Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA).

Better Returns, Tax Benefits, and Choice of funds make NPS an attractive investment than other Tax Savings Instruments.

NPS account can be opened online by making an initial investment/contribution of Rs.500. The minimum amount to be deposited annually in the account is Rs.1000.

Below are steps to open NPS account Online :

1. Go to eNPS Website : https://enps.nsdl.com/eNPS/NationalPensionSystem.html
On the Right-hand side, click on the National Pension System.

2.Click on Registration.

3.Online Subscription registration page will appear. Select New registration, choose appropriate category, enter your PAN number and select your Point of Presence (POP) where you have Savings account. Make a note of KYC verification fees. Click on Continue.

4. Next Page will ask you to enter Personal Details like your Name, Father and Mother Name. Once these details are filled click on "Generate Acknowledgement No".

5. After you click on Generate Acknowledgement, the Acknowledgement number will be generated along with Name and Time Stamp as below :

6. Next update FATCA and your Contact Details :

7. Then update your Bank Details :

8. In the Next Step, you need to choose a Pension Fund Manager (PFM) of your choice. Also, Select your desired investment option between Auto or Active as below. Click on ? to know more about Investment options. Also, update your Nominee details asked on this Page.

9. Next Step is to upload scanned documents of the Pan Card and Cancelled Check. Note the size of the documents.

10. Next, also upload your scanned image of passport size photo and signature. Note, the size of photo should be between 4KB and 12KB.

11. At this next step, you will have to make your first contribution towards NPS. The minimum initial amount needed is Rs 500. You can make the payment through the selected bank net banking facility.

12. Once you have successfully made the payment, you will get below the confirmation Page. Save/Print the receipt for your records and click on Download Registration form/E-sign.

13. At this last step, we have the option to e-sign the registration form or Print & courier registration form. If your Mobile number is linked with Aadhaar, then you can e-sign (Digitally sign) by submitting the OTP sent by UIDAI. Once you e-sign successfully, there is no need to submit physical documents to CRA. 

Click on e-sign & Download and complete the e-sign process.

14. You will get below page after successful e-sign. Click on Download e-signed form and save it for your records.

15. If you are unable to e-sign, You can print and Courier Subscriber registration form. Select the below option to Download the S1 form. Need to Print the form, paste photograph and sign it, and form should be sent within 90 days to the below address.

This completes the NPS account opening procedure. It will take 2 days for the units to be allotted against your PRAN Number. You will also get a message stating the PRAN kit will be delivered to your address within 10 days. We can make a further contribution through eNPS Website.

Note :

1. Keep scanned documents of PAN card, Cancelled Check, Passport size photo, and Signature ready with you before initiating registration.

2. Name and Address you enter must match with the given bank record since KYC verification will be done by your bank.
